My Snack of the Week: Pistachios

I haven't posted a Snack of the Week in awhile. Truth is, I've been pretty boring when it comes to snacks lately! I haven't been trying that many new ones, sticking to almonds or protein shakes most days.

However, I realized I failed to share with you one of my favorite snacks from the past few months - pistachios! Did I really just realize this past year how good these are? How am I so late to the game?

Pistachios cure my need for a "crunch" and have many health benefits.

3 reasons to snack on pistachios:

1.) They're a great source of antioxidants, which protect against inflammation.

2.) They have plenty of fiber.

3.) They are one of the lowest calorie nuts around.

Pick up some today! I like getting them from the bulk section of Sprout's :-)

What snack have you been enjoying lately? Feel free to share in the comment section below!

My Snack of the Week: Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride Tea

This past week I have been enjoying Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride tea from Celestial Seasonings on a daily basis. I drink it at my desk at work instead of noshing on a snack of empty calories, like pretzels or chips, when I need a little something to keep me going. It warms me up on our occasionally chilly day here in SD, too!

It really does smell like a sugar cookie, and at 0 calories, I'd choose it over the real thing any day.

My Snack of the Week: Greek Yogurt, Protein & Almond

Can you believe this weather?  I'm loving it!  But as the temp has risen, I've been craving something a little less heavy.  No need to fill up and cozy up this afternoon.

Recently I purchased some FAGE yogurt at Costco.  I almost never buy Greek yogurt anymore, as I suffered from a very severe addiction to sugary Greek yogurts (like Chobani) for about a year.  But FAGE is a safer brand, with only 9 grams of sugar in 1 cup.  I eat this yummy combo as a snack, but it can truly be eaten as a breakfast or dessert.

1/2 cup FAGE yogurt
1/2 scoop Jay Robb protein (chocolate flavor)
1 packet Stevia
1/4 cup sliced almonds

If you try it:
290 calories
30 g protein
5.5 g sugar
11 g carb

How does this match up to my last fav snack?  less cals, more protein, more sugar, equal carbs.

What do you like to mix into your yogurt?

My Snack of the Week: Almond & Coconut

What a crazy week it has been!  My go-to snack that has been getting me safely from meal to meal this week has been almonds and coconut.  Simple, but something different.  I have been mixing ¼ cup slivered almonds with 3 tablespoons unsweetened shredded coconut in a cup then eating it with a spoon.  I buy the slivered almonds from the bulk section of Sprout’s and the Let’s Do Organic finely shredded coconut from Whole Foods.

You know I love trying new flavor combinations and this one is just the right amount of sweet and crunchy.
